How to register for GST Online in India

Following is the complete guide on how to register online for GST:

1st Step – Go to the GST portal and click on ‘Register Now’ under ‘Taxpayers (Normal).

2nd Step – Enter the details in the Part A section:

Click on ‘New Registration’.

From the drop-down under ‘I am a’, choose ‘Taxpayer’.

From the drop-down, select the ‘State’ and the ‘District’.

Fill in with the ‘Name of Business’ and ‘PAN of the Business’.

Also enter the ‘E-mail Address’ and ‘Mobile Number’. The OTP will be sent to both ‘E-mail Address’ as well as the ‘Mobile Number’.

Once these steps are completed, click on ‘Proceed’.

3rd Step – Enter the received OTP on the E-mail Address and Mobile Number and click on ‘Continue’. In case, you have not received the OTP, then click on ‘Resend OTP’.

4th Step – A Temporary Reference Number (TRN) will be sent to your ‘E-mail ID’ and ‘Mobile number’ which must be noted down.

5th Step – You would need to go to the GST portal once again. Now click on ‘Register Now’.

6th Step – Select the Temporary Reference Number (TRN). Now fill in with the received ‘TRN’ and enter the ‘Captcha Code’ and click on ‘Proceed’.

7th Step – An OTP will be sent to your E-mail ID and registered Mobile Number. Now fill in with the OTP and click on ‘Proceed’.

8th Step – Now the status of your application will appear as drafts. Select the ‘Edit Icon’.

9th Step – Part B consist of 10 sections. Here you need to enter the details and submit requisite documents.

Following are the documents you would want to keep handy while applying for online GST registration

Constitution of the taxpayer

Photographs

Bank account details

Proof for the place of business

Authorization Form

10th Step – Once the above procedures are completed, go to the ‘Verification page’. Check on the declaration and submit the application by any of the following methods:

  • Only using DSC, companies must submit the application.
  • E-Sign – An OTP will be sent to the Aadhaar registered phone number.
  • EVC – An OTP will be sent to the registered mobile number.

11th Step – A success message will be displayed on screen and the Application Reference Number (ARN) will be sent to the registered E-mail ID and Mobile number.

The ARN status can be checked by entering the Application Reference Number (ARN) on the GST Portal.
